Almost 300 Paramedical Laboratory employees are joining OPSEU/SEFPO as the newest addition to the Hospital Professionals Division.

The workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining OPSEU/SEFPO so they can have a voice in the workplace, address scheduling concerns, staffing issues, and a lack of respect in the workplace. Paramedical laboratory workers are a critical part of our public health care system. They deserve representation in the workplace so they can fight for what they deserve.

“Despite chronic underfunding from the provincial government, medical laboratory workers – like all health care workers – are showing up to do their work with the limited resources they have,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick. “Together, we’ll fight with these workers for better funding for our public health care system and against Doug Ford’s slash and burn agenda.”

These workers join nearly 350 coworkers in diagnostic imaging from William Osler Health System in Local 233.

“Hospital professionals continue to be pushed towards burnout,” said Region 3 Vice President and Chair of the Hospitals Professional Division, Sara Labelle. “These workers are joining more than 25,000 Hospital Professionals in OPSEU/SEFPO. They are now part of a solid, winning team and they will get the support they deserve. They will have a much stronger voice moving forward with their employer, and together, we will fight for better staffing levels so registered and non-registered medical laboratory technologists, technicians and assistants can provide quality healthcare services to the communities they serve.”
