OPSEU/SEFPO alerted media this week to the planned closure of the 16-bed Cecil Facer Youth Centre in Sudbury two years from now. The grounds will be repurposed to build a 50-bed institution for women.
Peter Harding, OPSEU/SEFPO Co-Chair of the Ministry Employee Relations Committee for MCCSS-Youth Justice, spoke with several media outlets about the impact the planned closure will have.
The closure will force Sudbury-area youth in custody hours away from their families and communities, and OPSEU/SEFPO members who work there will have to decide between relocating hours away to keep working with youth, or to change careers and work with adults in the new facility.
