Parents, students, staff, union representatives and other supporters of Amethyst Demonstration School and Robarts School for the Deaf will rally today to protest a possible closure of these schools for children with special needs.
Date: Wednesday, March 30, 2016
Time: 4:30 p.m
Location: Amethyst Demonstration School, 1515 Cheapside Street, London
Education Minister Liz Sandals has initiated a consultation on the future of four demonstration schools, including Amethyst Demonstration School, as well as one provincial school, Robarts School for the Deaf.
Parents, staff and union representatives fear that the consultation is a mere formality before shuttering the five schools, which cater to the needs of some of the most vulnerable children in the province.
The other schools included in the consultation are the Centre Jules-Léger in Ottawa; Trillium Demonstration School in Milton; and Sagonaska Demonstration School in Belleville.
Another rally will take place on Tuesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. in front of Trillium Demonstration School/Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf, 347 Ontario Street South, Milton.
