Media advisory: OPSEU members to picket CMHA Elgin over workplace harassment

St. Thomas — Staff working at the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Elgin branch will hold an information picket outside of the branch’s Centre St. location to call for an end to workplace harassment within the organization.

Date: Wednesday October 4, 2017
Time:  4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Place: 110 Centre St., St. Thomas, ON (outside of the CMHA, Elgin branch)

The staff, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 133, describe a work environment of fear and intimidation where they are consistently targeted and penalized by upper management for speaking up about health, safety and other workplace concerns.

OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas will speak at the event.

“The staff at the CMHA Elgin work with some of the most vulnerable members of the community – individuals who are suffering mental health crises,” he said. “These workers are facing their own mental health crises as a result of a toxic workplace tainted by fear and intimidation. It’s time to stop workplace harassment at the CMHA Elgin.”
