The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is organizing a provincewide telephone town hall to update Ontario workers on provincial government plans for major reforms to the Ontario Labour Relations Act (OLRA) and the Employment Standards Act (ESA). The town hall will also provide news on the OFL’s “Make it Fair!” campaign to make both laws work better for workers.
The telephone town hall will take place on March 7 at 7 p.m. To make sure you’re signed up, please click here, or call 1-877-229-8493 and enter passcode 16429
The Changing Workplaces Review, a review of the OLRA and ESA, is still underway, and the two special advisors heading it are due to give their final recommendations to the Minister of Labour soon. The recommendations are expected to be released this spring, and will inform any legislative changes the government introduces to Ontario’s labour laws.
The OFL is also using the telephone town hall to launch the next phase of the Make It Fair campaign: a new postcard initiative. Thousands of workers, including members of OPSEU, are signing on to send a message to their MPPs about the need to make meaningful changes to our employment laws. Get active and sign on! You can order postcards from the OFL, free of charge, and they will be shipped to you.
