Sudbury hosts first Regional Launch for "Made in the USA"
September 27, 2013
There was a full house and great discussion at the Sudbury OPSEU Membership Centre for the first regional launch of Made in the USA: Hudak"s plan to cut your wages. Popcorn, candy and pop contributed to the "evening at the movies" theme.
The crowd included many OPSEU members, Local Presidents and retiree members, as well as Sudbury District Labour Council representatives and community allies from groups such as the Sudbury and District Women"s Council.
"Everyone loved the film," said Executive Board Member Felicia Fahey. "The number one priority right now is for all of us to work together and get the message out. It"s time for group discussions as well as one-on-one conversations."
The open forum discussion after the film addressed the political landscape in Ontario. This carried over into the Labour Council meeting that followed the launch event.
"People who saw the movie were interested to learn that Tim Hudak went to university in the US," said Fahey. "It also says a lot that his first job after graduation was as a manager at Wal-mart. The movie really explained how everything adds up."
"I want to give special thanks to everyone who came out to this event, and especially the Sudbury Area Council Chair, Kathy Whipple, who helped with the planning of the event," said Fahey.
Special movie showing at CLC campaign event
More than 120 attendees at the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) Together Fairness Works leadership seminar were treated to a special viewing of "Made in the USA". The CLC Campaign event was a day-long event held in Hamilton on Thursday, September 26.
"There was lots of "wow!!" And shock all around," said Marnie Niemi, OPSEU Political Liaison, who showed the DVD during the event lunch hour.
Delegates from the many different unions attending this big event are excited to take back copies of the dvd to show their members.
