A report from CBC News highlights the efforts of Ontario’s coroners to unionize over dissatisfaction with their working conditions. The Ontario Coroners Association, representing around 350 coroners, has launched a campaign in partnership with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/SEFPO) . They are seeking better compensation and improved working conditions that address increased workloads and burnout.

Ontario’s coroners have now filed a constitutional challenge to be able to unionize — doctors are not allowed by law to do so — and voted 96 per cent in favour of joining the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. A hearing is set for November.
