We are deeply saddened to share news about the loss of a cherished member of our OPSEU/SEFPO family due to complications brought on by COVID-19.
Connie Cerdan was a member of Local 597 and a member of OPSEU/SEFPO since 1994. She worked at Montage Support Services.
She passed away on January 3 after testing positive for COVID-19 on Dec 29. She was 66.
Connie was known for her thoughtful, kind nature. She was loved and respected by her coworkers and everyone she supported at her workplace. She hosted an annual BBQ at her home for all Montage clients and staff, which speaks volumes about her dedication to her job. Connie was a front-line hero who always went above and beyond to take care of her family, her coworkers, and the Ontarians she helped every day. We will greatly miss her.
To all of Connie’s fellow members at Local 597, we share in your loss – you are not alone. We encourage you all to get in touch with your union should you have any concerns for your own safety, or simply just need to talk. We are working closely with your employer to ensure that your workplace is safe, clean, and you have access to every resource you need.
It is truly heartbreaking any time that the Connies of this world are taken from us. It is people like Connie who make our province and our world a better place and we will never forget her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Connie’s family, friends, and coworkers during this extremely difficult time. We are here to offer support in any way we can.
In solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU/SEFPO President
Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
