Implementation of the Court Reporter MOS (Hunt et. al.) Moving Forward

The Memorandum of Settlement (MOS) negotiated between OPSEU and the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) on March 3, 2014 is moving forward.

Hundreds of current, former, and retired court reporters have come forward to share their contact information, transcribing period and other requested information.  There has been continuous work going on behind the scenes. Tim Elphick, MAG MERC member, has been assisting in the verification of the Group A and B lists of names provided by the ministry, along with compiling names for the Group C list.

The verification of the Group A and B lists was returned to the ministry on June 12, 2014.  This included the additional names of members who were not captured on the ministry’s list. The ministry has since reviewed our additions and we are in the process of confirming a handful of names.

The ministry has advised us that the election packages are now being distributed.  Current employees should receive their packages in the work place.  Retired court reporters will be receiving their packages via mail.  It is anticipated that current and retired reporters will have their packages by July 2, 2014.  If you have not received your package soon after that date, please direct your questions to your manager.

Compilation of the Group C list is ongoing and will work continue to take place over the summer months. This is the listing of former court reporters who no longer prepared transcripts. OPSEU is making every effort to identify former court reporters, getting names from previous lists and from individual members.

If you qualify and you want to be included on the Group C list, please provide your information to OPSEU by August 25, 2014.

We kindly ask you to provide as much of the following information as possible:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • email address
  • WIN ID number (6-digits)
  • Court location (in which you performed transcript work)
  • Position title and classification while you performed transcript work
  • Category of hours, if you were an FPT (1000 or 1500)
  • Continuous Service Date (CSD, if known)
  • Start and end period of transcript production
  • Current Ontario Public Service employees, indicate your position title and current ministry

If you know of members who used to prepare and certify transcripts, please share this information with them so that we can ensure all court reporters who are entitled to the provisions of the settlement are included.

All members who are added to the Group C list will receive confirmation via e-mail (if applicable). You can submit your information to courtreporters@opseu.org.

If you don’t have email, you can leave us a voicemail with your information. A telephone reply will be provided to those connecting with the Court Reporter voicemail. You can reach us at 416-443-8888 or 1-800- 268-7376 Ext. 8080.

The ministry advises that election packages will be sent to members on the Group C list in the Fall of 2014.
