Dear OPSEU/SEFPO Hospital Professionals Division members,

We are writing to provide you with an update on the recent HPD mediation that took place this weekend on February 18-19.

As you know, your bargaining team and the employer, the OHA, met with arbitrator William Kaplan to discuss compensation improvements in light of Bill 124 being overturned and declared “void and of no effect” by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on November 29, 2022.

During the mediation, we presented our revised monetary proposal to arbitrator Kaplan and discussed potential remedies. However, following the conclusion of the mediation this afternoon, it was determined that additional written submissions and supporting evidence are required.

Therefore, in the coming weeks, we will be submitting further supporting submissions to arbitrator Kaplan. Once these submissions have been reviewed, he will issue a decision on the matter.

We know that Bill 124 has had a harmful impact on our workplaces and we are committed to negotiating the best possible outcome for our members.

Thank you for your support. We will continue to keep you updated as this process continues.

In solidarity,
Your HPD bargaining team:
