Facing high stress and growing workloads, the frontline Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists, and other Health Professionals at Timmins Academic Family Health Team (TAFHT) have voted strongly in favour of joining together in OPSEU/SEFPO.
“It takes determination and courage to stand together in the face of an impossible amount of work, especially when it’s work that you care deeply about. That’s exactly what the Health Professionals at the Timmins Academic Family Health Team just did, and I want to congratulate each and every one,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick. “Frontline health care workers across Ontario and around the world are feeling the hard pinch of privatization. By joining together, we can all start pushing back.”
TAFHT is a not-for-profit primary health care organization that provides care and services in English and French to 30,000 patients in the Timmins area and the Town of Gogama. Working with physicians in six different locations, the primary health care team coordinates to deliver the highest possible quality of health care for the community.
The roughly 25 new OPSEU/SEFPO members at TAFHT are Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists, and other health professionals.
“Welcome to our colleagues at TAFHT. We’re excited and proud you’re joining us,” said Lucy Morton, chair of the OPSEU/SEFPO Community Health Care Professionals sector (Sector 17.) “Like the Health Professionals at Toronto Family Health Team and Upper Canada Family Health Team in Brockville, our new members are providing the preventative frontline care that helps ease the burdens on our hospitals, emergency rooms, and long-term care centres.
“The work we do is incredibly important, and well worth standing up for. At OPSEU/SEFPO, we’re proud to stand with you.”
