Respiratory Therapists and Pulmonary Technologists at the Firestone Institute for respiratory health at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton have voted unanimously to join OPSEU.

“We couldn’t be happier that these frontline health professionals have decided to join us,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “The Ford government has its sights set on our public health care system. But by working together, we can keep the privatizers and profiteers at bay.

“Together is key. Together to win.”

OPSEU Hospital Professional Division Chair Sara Labelle offered congratulations to the new members.

“Welcome to the OPSEU family,” said Labelle. “You’re joining with 25,000 other health care professionals working in hospitals and labs. We have a proven track-record of protecting ourselves and the vital life-saving services that Ontarians depend on every day.”

OPSEU First Vice President / Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida said the new members can count on the strength and solidarity that the union brings to the table.

“They’ve now got 155,000 frontline workers standing by their side,” said Almeida. “Their experience and their education deserve respect and recognition. Together, we’ll make sure that’s exactly what they get.”
