In the wake of a health merger, the front-line hospital professionals at the former Kirkland Lake and Englehart District Hospitals have voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining the steadily growing number of hospital workers in OPSEU/SEFPO.

“This is an incredible group of health care professionals – courageous, dedicated, and caring,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “I know I’m speaking on behalf of all 180,000 members of our great union – including more than 50,000 working in hospitals – when I say that I’m pleased that these workers have joined us.”

All Allied Health Professionals at the newly merged Blanche River Health are now members of OPSEU/SEFPO. Some had been members of another union, but the merger triggered a run-off vote under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act (PSLRTA).

“OPSEU/SEFPO has become the union of choice for front-line hospital professionals, and it’s easy to see why,” said OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida. “25,000-plus hospital professionals in nearly 90 hospitals is a force to be reckoned with. And with these news members, OPSEU/SEFPO has become an even stronger voice for public health care and the hospital professionals at its heart.”
