Dozens of constituents and citizens concerned about the Ford government’s cuts to education picketed and rallied at PC MPP Monte McNaughton’s Strathroy office on Wednesday afternoon after school. OPSEU member came out in solidarity with other education workers and families who will be affected by the cuts.
OPSEU’s Region 1 Vice President Len Elliott noted that McNaughton’s office was empty at 3:20 p.m. despite their posted office hours being 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “I guess the PC Party doesn’t want to hear from constituents,” said Elliott. “Monte McNaughton is not on your side. The people of Ontario are speaking loud and clear against the Ford government’s agenda for the rich.”
OPSEU President Warren “Smokey” Thomas extended his congratulations and encouraged members to “continue speaking up against these devastating cuts to our public services and keep up the pressure on MPPs across the province.”
The Rally for Education was organized by OSBCU, OPSEU, OSSTF, ETFO and CUPE. Allies from many other unions and community groups were there in solidarity as well.
