The Disability Rights Caucus is seeking applications for two members from Regions 2, 3, 5 and 7 only. Aims and Purposes: The function of the Caucus shall be:
  1. To provide a safe and healthy space for members of the Disability Rights Caucus to discuss issues and develop strategies to address the issues.
  2. To increase awareness and understanding of equity issues as they related to individuals with disabilities and to liaise with the respective Provincial Committee(s).
  3. To identify barriers and denied rights that prohibit full participation of persons with disabilities within OPSEU/SEFPO and the broader community/society.
  4. To present recommendations to the Provincial Committee(s) and/or to departments of OPSEU/SEFPO for action and/or referral to the Executive Board on issues related to barriers and rights that affect individuals with disabilities within OPSEU/SEFPO, the workplace and the broader community/society.
  5. To liaise with OPSEU/SEFPO members with a disability as defined under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
The Equity Unit will remove personal identifying information and assign an application number prior to screening. All applications will be screened and ranked using the following criteria:
  1. Demonstrated commitment to advocate, educate and advance the issues of all persons with disabilities;
  2. Gender balance;
  3. Mix of Union and Community activities;
  4. A wide range of disabilities with a balance of visible and non-visible disabilities.
OPSEU/SEFPO supports employment equity. Women, people with disabilities, racialize workers, Indigenous workers, gay, lesbians, bisexual, transgender/transsexual people, and gender diverse (LGBTQ2S+) workers, Francophones, young workers and retirees. For the purpose of statistical data collection, applicants are strongly encouraged to voluntarily self-identify. Preference will be given to persons with a disability. Application for the Disability Rights Caucus (DRC) Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. Mon, Oct. 31 2022.
