Court Reporters Update – May 21, 2014

The Ministry of the Attorney General has provided OPSEU with the lists of current court reporters (Group A) and retired court reporters (Group B) as specified in the Memorandum of Settlement (MOS), March 3, 2014. The MOS states that OPSEU has 30 days in which to review and include additional names to either list. Tim Elphick, MAG MERC member, is assisting us in confirming names on these lists as well as compiling the Group C list of former court reporters.

If you are a current or retired court reporter and would like to confirm that your name is on the list, please send an email to: [email protected] with the subject line “Confirm I’m on the list.” Kindly provide your name, address, phone number, status (current or retired court reporter) and the dates when you produced transcripts within the period from July 16, 2003 to March 3, 2014 (the signing of the MOS), your WIN number (if known) and your continuous service date (CSD). If you are unable to send us an email, you can call OPSEU at 416-443-8888 ext. 8080 (1-800-268-7376 ext. 8080) and leave us a voice mail message with the requested information. You must respond to OPSEU by June 6, 2014 to ensure your name is on the Group A and B lists.

OPSEU is responsible for creating a list of individuals who are captured in Group C. The Ministry says they are unable to produce such a list. If you worked for MAG in the past and produced and certified transcripts, but no longer produce transcripts and are not retired, we would ask that your send an email to: [email protected] with the subject line “Include me on the list.” In the body of the email, please add your name, address and phone number and dates when you produced transcripts within the period from July 16, 2003 to March 3, 2014 (the signing of the MOS), your WIN number (if known) and your continuous service date (CSD).

If you are to be included on the Group C list, please provide your information to OPSEU by August 25, 2014. If you know of members who used to prepare and certify transcripts, please share this information with them so that we can ensure all court reporters who are entitled to the provisions of the settlement are included.

OPSEU and the employer have entered into discussions regarding the process for implementation of the MOS, specifically the implementation of the Lump Sum and Pension Options. The parties are aiming for a July 2, 2014 date on which to provide court reporters with their election packages. Court reporters will be given ample time to consider the lump sum or pension option before having to submit their election forms.

Please continue to monitor the OPSEU website for updates.
