Corrections Cares about Communities: events listing

For the second year in a row, correctional workers across Ontario will give back to their communities. From their various work locations, corrections members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) will take part in a wide variety of community-specific charity fundraising events as part of the second annual “Corrections Cares about Communities” event.

Maplehurst Correctional Complex/Vanier Centre for Women

Event: “Out in the Cold”

Correctional officer Ryan Graham has pledged to stay outside for a 24-hour period, beginning at 8 a.m. on February 19 and continuing until 8 a.m. on February 20.

Correctional staff are also hosting a barbeque at noon on February 19. All proceeds will go to Halton Women’s Place in support of women and children seeking shelter from domestic violence.

Event: Food drive with proceeds going to the Rainy River District Victim Services Program

Central North Correctional Centre

Event: “Out in the Cold”

Correctional officer Richard Dionne has pledged to stay outside for a 24-hour period, beginning at 8 a.m. on February 19 and continuing until 8 a.m. on February 20.

Correctional staff are also hosting a barbeque from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 19. All proceeds will go to “Coldest Night of the Year,” supporting local programs for homelessness at Waypoint.
