Delegates from every OPSEU/SEFPO local with Correctional Bargaining Unit members elected their leaders at the biennial OPS Correctional Bargaining Unit Divisional Meetings in October 2022.

The meetings were opened by OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick and First Vice-President/Treasurer Laurie Nancekivell, who congratulated the Correctional Bargaining Unit on their demonstrated ability to mobilize their members in bargaining and on workplace issues. Both leaders committed to supporting the ongoing work of the Correctional Bargaining Unit to force the government to fix the crisis in corrections.

During the plenary, Boots On The Ground President and founder Dave McLennan gave an informative and thoughtful presentation about the vital peer support the organization provides on a confidential and anonymous basis for first responders, including front-line correctional staff. After the presentation, the delegates and Executive Board Members in the room raised a total of $20,000 for Boots On The Ground.

Delegates also received updates from their Ministry Employee Relations Committee teams, their health and safety committees, and the bargaining team, as well as grievance and WSIB reports.

Delegates from the Ministry of the Solicitor General (Corrections) and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (Youth Justice) then elected leaders to represent them at the ministry level for both Ministry Employee Relations Committees (MERC), and both health and safety teams.
