Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

On October 21, Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Appreciation Day, we reflect on the significant role childcare workers play in our children’s lives and extend our deep appreciation for their skill and dedication.

OPSEU/SEFPO proudly represents thousands of child care workers and Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs), who work hard every day to provide care, education and support to children and help them confidently navigate the world around them. Child care workers and DECEs shape children’s emotional, intellectual and social skills. They support families and help children to become positive members of society. Their influence is long-lasting in a child’s life.

Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day recognizes the care and dedication child care workers and DECEs show in their work with children, and how the work they do influences our society and our communities.

Child care is a foundation of our society. A strong, affordable public child care system nurtures children’s development, reduces strain on families and advances gender equality. Reducing the cost of child care and increasing wages for child care workers and DECEs should be prioritized by our government. In the government’s aim to make Ontario the best place to do business, work, and raise a family, child care is a significant factor that must not be overlooked.

Child care workers and DECEs deserve safe working conditions and fair wages for the high-quality childcare they provide. OPSEU/SEFPO thanks all child care workers and DECEs for the important role you play in educating and caring for our children. We promise to keep fighting for improvements to our child care system and for the recognition of your value.

In solidarity,

Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU/SEFPO President

Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
