Every year, in the third week of June, we celebrate the incredible efforts of Ontario’s diverse health professionals and their unstoppable determination. And this year – with Bill 72 introduced in the Ontario Legislature – we’re one step closer to having Health Professionals’ Week officially recognized! In the meantime, we continue to celebrate our health professionals and recognize the critical roles they undertake throughout the arc of patient care.

But, while we celebrate this achievement, we must also acknowledge the serious threat that our healthcare system is under because of Bill 60 – the Ford government’s healthcare privatization legislation. We must commit ourselves to take action.

It’s why OPSEU/SEFPO’s Hospital Professionals Division and Ambulance Division teamed up to launch the Save Public Healthcare campaign. We invite you to watch our ground-breaking ad and take action by visiting www.savepublichealthcare.ca and emailing your representatives, today!

Health care is supposed to be provided to Canadians on the basis of need, regardless of financial circumstances. Yet, the Ontario Conservative government is making Ontario’s public healthcare system increasingly more reliant on private, for-profit clinics that pull funding and staff away from the public healthcare system.

These for-profit clinics don’t just cost taxpayers more, through OHIP and out-of-pocket fees, they will make wait times even worse in our public system. Who benefits? The already-wealthy shareholders who stand to make a big profit.

During Health Professionals’ Week, please take a moment to hear from the healthcare professionals who know what it takes to solve Ontario’s healthcare crisis and share their insights on your social media (see videos below).

By speaking out together, we can save public healthcare.

In solidarity,

Sara Labelle, Chair, OPSEU/SEFPO Hospital Professionals Division
JP Hornick, OPSEU/SEFPO President
Laurie Nancekivell, OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
