The Equity Unit is seeking Advisors and Investigators to participate in the processing of complaints under the Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Policy (HDPP). All interested applicants are encouraged to submit a statement of interest to the Equity Unit by September 19, 2014 at 5:00 p.m..
Vacancies
The Equity Unit is seeking Advisors and Investigators in the following regions:
- Region 2 –one (1) Advisor
- Region 5 –one (1) Advisor
- Region 6 –two (2) Advisors; one (1) investigator
- Region 7 –two (2) Advisors; one (1) investigator
Advisor Roles
- Advise Complainants or Respondents of their rights, responsibilities and options under the Policy;
- Assist Complainants or Respondents in completing all relevant forms;
- Act as advocates for Complainants or Respondents throughout the complaint process, including investigations and appeals;
- May serve in the role of Mediator between the parties;
- May act as an Advisor to Executive Board members and parties in complex complaints through the Special Advisory Committee.
Advisor Qualifications
- OPSEU member in good standing;
- Demonstrated understanding of and background in human rights issues;
- Demonstrated ability to advise and mediate complaints.
Investigator Roles
- Investigate allegations in a complaint;
- Prepare investigation reports and recommend suitable remedies where it is believed that alleged conduct has been substantiated;
- May act as a Mediator between the parties;
- May act as an Advisor to Executive Board members and parties in complex complaints through the Special Advisory Committee.
Investigator Qualifications
- OPSEU member in good standing;
- Demonstrated understanding of and background in human rights issues;
- Demonstrated ability to advise and mediate complaints;
- Excellent information-gathering, communication, interpersonal, analytic writing and problem solving skills.

Timelines
Selected candidates are expected to commit to the positions on a long-term basis.
The deadline for application is September 19, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.. Please note that any statement of interest submitted after 5:00 p.m. will not be considered.
Members who are selected for an interview must be available from October 20 to October 28, 2014 for their interview, and successful candidates must be available for training in Toronto during the week of January 19-23, 2015. Advisors will be expected to attend three days of training that week (January 19-21), and Investigators will attend five days (January 19-23).
