February 13, 2023 will mark 20 years since hospital professionals across Ontario made history. On February 13, 2003, thousands of OPSEU/SEFPO members in the Hospital Professionals Division staged one of the largest single-day walkouts in the union’s history in what was known as the Emergency Day of Action. Despite a court ruling which deemed the strike unlawful, bringing with it the risk of fines and the threat of discipline, members overwhelmingly attended picket lines across Ontario in sub-zero temperatures, determined to achieve change.
To commemorate the 20-year anniversary, OPSEU/SEFPO’s Political Action and Education division is producing a video. We are asking all members and staff who were involved with this action to provide any archival materials you might have in your possession. This could be in the form of pictures, videos, articles, or any other media that provides a snapshot of that moment in history.
