Conference Details

The Provincial Young Workers Committee (PYC) invites OPSEU young workers, 35 and under, to submit their application for the 2019 Young Workers Conference which will take place from August 9-11 in downtown Toronto.  In addition to welcoming previous conference participants, the PYC would like to extend a special invitation to those who have not attended in the past.  We look forward to meeting you!

This year’s event, “Elevate: Rising to Meet the Challenges of Uncertain Times” will examine the challenges young workers face in the current labour market.  More importantly, the conference will highlight the value unions bring in responding to these challenges.  The labour market has made many gains when it comes to fair wages, safe working environments, and access to benefits, but not all workers are able to enjoy them.  Young workers, in particular, find themselves trapped in an endless cycle of low-paying, insecure jobs with little or no opportunity for advancement.

This year’s conference will build on last year’s theme and will focus on the ‘basics’ of union activism.  This is an opportunity for OPSEU’s young workers to have a say in their future.

Event participants will be selected by the PYC with assistance from the Equity Unit. The selection process will try to achieve a diverse group of attendees, representative of the young workers within our membership. All applicants to the conference will be contacted in June and will be advised of the status of their application.

Thank you for your interest in this event.  Please note that applications are no longer being accepted.  For additional information, contact the Equity Unit at [email protected]
