October 20 to 26 is National Respiratory Care Week and we ask you to join us in honouring the hardworking health professionals who care for patients with acute and chronic cardio-respiratory conditions.
OPSEU represents more than 25,000 hospital professionals in Ontario, including respiratory therapists. We are proud to have these health professionals in our family as part of OPSEU’s Hospital Professionals Division.
Many of us take for granted the essential human need to breath. What might seem simple and natural to many is a cause of great distress to others. We want to take this opportunity to thank health professionals for their care and compassion.
Respiratory Care Week not only shines a spotlight on efforts to reduce disabling lung conditions like asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) but the week is devoted to panel discussions and special events to help raise public awareness about what they can do to reduce devastating lung conditions.
This week is also designed to boost interest in people who might want to become respiratory therapists or other health professionals working in the area of respiratory care.
If it is a career in health care that you are interested in, why not take a look at becoming a respiratory care professional. Without an eager and dedicated workforce, our health care system cannot function properly.
In Solidarity,
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas
First Vice-President/Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida
