Province-wide information pickets this Friday!

Hundreds of liquor board employees and their supporters are expected to take part in information pickets this Friday April 19 as momentum builds to have LCBO management negotiate a fair and just contract for its 7,000 unionized employees.

“We got a phenomenal 95 per cent strike mandate last week but we have plenty of hard work ahead of us,” said Denise Davis, chair of LBED’s bargaining team. “I am urging every available liquor board employee to participate in this very important public display of our strength and unity.”

The information pickets will take place outside a prominent LCBO retail location in the following cities:  London, Hamilton, Peterborough, Ottawa, Toronto, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

There will be free refreshments available at each of the information pickets.

Flyers have been prepared for the public that explains what liquor board employees are looking for in our next collective agreement. This includes improved wages and benefits for full-time and part-time workers alike; improvements to the Permanent Vacancy Review (PVR), safer working conditions and other issues that, taken together, amount to good jobs for all of us.

“We went back to the bargaining table last week and talks will continue this week,” said Davis. “But your bargaining team needs to demonstrate to the employer that we have the strength of 7,000 employees behind us every step of the way. Please do your best to attend one of the information pickets in a city near you.”
