Dear OPSEU/SEFPO members,

The holiday season has arrived and in the spirit of giving, the Provincial Women’s Committee (PWC) is challenging members and locals to a food drive! With food inflation so high and wages not keeping up, more of our friends, family members, neighbours, and co-workers are using food banks than ever before. Between January and September of this year, the number of people using food banks increased 24 per cent over the previous year with one in three people being first-time visitors.

We are asking OPSEU/SEFPO members and locals to organize collections of non-perishable items to be distributed within your communities. These can be donated to a local charity or food bank, or in some other way that will make someone’s holiday season just a little warmer. You can find a food bank near you or donate online by visiting www.feedontario.ca. Let’s make this big!

Click here to find some holiday donation ideas – though you are still encouraged to make donations as you see fit. Share your progress with us as well, by taking pictures of your collections and sending them in to: [email protected] or [email protected]. We would love to see your progress and share it on social media, too. If you have a way to inspire others to donate by making it fun, even better!

Celebrate the season of giving with us by giving to those who need it most. We are putting this challenge forward because we know OPSEU/SEFPO members can help make the difference that is needed in your respective communities. Let’s make a difference!

In solidarity,

JP Hornick, OPSEU/SEFPO President
Laurie Nancekivell, OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
Dianne Clarabut, OPSEU/SEFPO Provincial Women’s Committee (PWC) Chair
