Title: General Duty Maintenance
Location: Operations Services Unit, Division, OPSEU/SEFPO Head Office, 100 Lesmill Rd. Toronto, ON. M3B 3P8
Reporting To: Supervisor, Operations Services Unit
Start Date: To be determined
End Date: Up to four months’
Salary: $1,313.00 to $1,364.00 per week (Service Staff)
Working Conditions: As provided in the OPSSU/OPSEU/SEFPO Collective Agreement

Principal Duties:

Assist in providing repairs and maintenance for the building, grounds, machinery and equipment at Head Office

  • Assists in the repair, operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery
  • Performs grounds and building maintenance duties in all seasons
  • Assists with receiving loading dock duties and general office duties
  • Reports damaged or inoperable furniture, furnishings, fixtures and equipment to Supervisor
  • Advises Supervisor of supplies inventory
  • Follows and maintains Maintenance Program
  • Collects and disposes of garbage and recyclable products
  • Internal and external maintenance at heights
  • Uses chemicals following written instructions
  • Moves furniture, equipment and supplies
  • Assists in the performance of major renovation work in the building
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • Requires a High School diploma and four years of experience as a Maintenance Worker, as well as some experience in other trades
  • Requires formal/informal updating on maintenance, repair and installation techniques
  • Tact and Diplomacy skills
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices and WHMIS procedures
  • Knowledge of standing building codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of OPSEU/SEFPO organization, structure and policies; knowledge of own Unit as well as familiarity of operations of other Units
  • Understanding and commitment to Labour/Social Democratic Philosophy and Diversity
