OPS Unified local presidents and stewards: We need your help!

Your Ontario Public Service (OPS) Central Employee Relations Committee (CERC) team has launched a new and exciting campaign for OPS Unified members: "Activate, Educate, Participate!" This campaign is a union-building exercise, to engage as many members as possible in the OPS Unified bargaining unit.

Campaign phases

The first phase of the campaign is "Activate!" We're running a contest from February 14 to March 29, 2018. The draw date is April 5, 2018. There will be seven prizes of $1,000 – one prize per region! (Click here for contest details.)

During this first phase, we are trying to get as many OPS Unified members as possible to sign union cards and sign up for the online Member Portal.

But that's just the beginning. The "Educate and Participate" phase starts in April 2018 – that's when we'll be encouraging all those new members you've signed up to learn about their union and get involved. We'll be posting more about that after the contest is over.

How you can help

  1. Please approach your members from February 14 to March 29, 2018 and encourage them to sign a membership form or sign up for the Member Portal. The contest is a great incentive!
  2. We have mailed contest posters to all OPS Unified local presidents/highest ranking. Please post them on your union bulletin boards and hand them out to your members. If you need more, email [email protected] or click here for a PDF that you can print out.
  3. Please forward contest information to any new or current members in your workplace who haven't received it.

What's in it for you and your local?

It gives you a chance to speak face-to-face with new members and encourage them to sign a card and get involved. It's also a great conversation-starter with current members on what's happening in the union.

Want some tips and materials for approaching new members?

Here's a great tip sheet for stewards to orient new members to the union.

New Member Orientation Kits are also available from your regional office. They include an OPSEU Owners' Manual, an OPSEU Constitution, OPSEU's Statement of Respect, and a membership application form.
