The National Union is organizing a webinar on the upcoming UN climate change Conference of the Parties—COP26—and what it means for workers.
The webinar will take place on Thursday, October 7, from noon to 1 pm EDT. The aim of the webinar is to provide a high-level overview of COP, why it matters, and what it means for workers—in Canada and globally.
The webinar will take place on Zoom, and English to French interpretation will be available. I will be introducing and moderating the webinar and will be joined by speakers from the Canadian Labour Congress and Climate Action Network Canada. The link to register is here: https://mpulsionservices.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0IsxGZu0TxmfSGZLwImoUg. After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
We have heard from our Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE) that there is an appetite among members for educational material on environmental and climate change issues. This year’s Conference of the Parties (COP), the global summit for climate negotiations, is highly anticipated, because countries are expected to up their commitments under the Paris Agreement. But there are also safety and equity concerns around holding an in-person summit during the pandemic. Given this timing and significance of COP26, we hope this webinar will be useful to our members.
Please share this webinar information with your members. We will also be promoting the event by email, including to the members of ACE, and on our website. If you have any questions, please contact National Representative Nadia Ibrahim ([email protected]).
