OPSEU and MCSCS enter agreement on Systemic Change

May 16, 2011

OPSEU has negotiated a Memorandum of Agreement with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Correctional Services Division, for the establishment of a Diversity Sub-Committee, which will be a sub-committee of the Corrections MERC. In the coming weeks, we will be identifying the members for this committee.

As part of a Transformational Strategy, it was also agreed that each worksite will establish “Local Diversity Working Groups” (LDWG). Once the members have been identified for the Diversity Sub-Committee, they will proceed with developing the selection process and recruitment for the LDWGs.

Secondly, we have also negotiated new Terms of Reference for SAROCC. To ensure compliance with the O’Brien GSB Order, it is agreed to revert back to its original name, “Systemic Change”, and complete the orders still outstanding.

Please see the attached joint communication from OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas and Correctional Services Deputy Minister Jay Hope. You will also find attached the MOAs for the Transformational Strategy, Terms of Reference for the Systemic Change Steering Committee and Terms of Reference for the MERC Diversity Subcommittee and Local Diversity Working Groups.
