Recognition Now Campaign
Whereas the Ontario Public Services Employees Union (OPSEU) has launched a campaign against privatization of public assets and services; and
Whereas the Ministry of the Attorney General in the Ontario Public Service has commenced a review of core services and their delivery to consider privatization of such public services; and
Whereas the Ministry of the Attorney General has publically stated they are reviewing two models of alternative service delivery (aka privatization) of enforcement officer/Sheriff duties; and
Whereas the Ministry of the Attorney General is actively reviewing the composition of courtroom staffing to modernize court services; and
Therefore be it resolved that the Officers and/or Executive Board of OPSEU approve the campaign proposal from the Ministry of the Attorney General Employee Relations Committee titled “Recognition Now – Protect the Delivery of Justice”; and
Be it further resolved that that the Executive Committee of OPSEU assign staff resources to assist in the development and implementation of such campaign.

Solidarity Reserve Fund Requests

Therefore be it resolved that the Solidarity Reserve Fund provide up to $5,000 to pay actual legal costs incurred by the member in the course of her defence to the civil action, on the conditions that: 1) counsel continues to provide legal services at reasonable rates, as approved by OPSEU counsel; and 2) counsel makes reasonable efforts to seek legal costs in the course of the action and as part of any settlement.
