Rainbow Alliance prepares to make a splash

For many years OPSEU's Rainbow Alliance has provided representation and support to our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersexed, queer, questioning and two-spirited (LGBTTIQQ2S) members.  We promote equality and a harassment-free work environment.  Tackling discrimination in the workplace means addressing and challenging it in our communities, unions and homes.

We are very aware that some of our members also participate in other identity groups and we celebrate that!  The Rainbow Alliance has a chance to step up its game this year with World Pride in Toronto.  We would like to extend an invitation to your committee/caucus to hold a display at our Labour House.  This invitation is open to any labour-friendly organization who would like to showcase the great work that they are currently doing within the community.  These displays will be held inside the OPSEU Toronto Regional Office on 31 Wellesley Street East and can take the form of pretty much anything from a poster, a booth or a speaker.  Be creative and have fun!  Send an e-mail to pride@opseu.org for additional information or to contact a member of the Rainbow Alliance.

Events

In addition, the Rainbow Alliance is proud to be hosting and/or co-hosting a number of events for World Pride:

  • June 23 (Monday) – Meet and Greet for International Guests to World Pride, hosted by the Ontario Rainbow Alliance for the Deaf (ORAD).  Time to be determined.
  • June 24 (Tuesday) – A forum from Queer Ontario which is described as "An accessibile community event and forum regarding the new sex worker laws in Ontario and the impact it has on sex workers and queer and trans identified people."  Join a panel of experts as they engage in thought-provoking discussions on this issue.  Time to be determined.
  • Also on June 24 (from 6-10pm), the Ontario Rainbow Alliance for the Deaf (ORAD) will be hosting an "Arts Showcase."
  • June 25 (Wednesday) – NUPGE caucus welcoming the world to Toronto with further details to be determined;
  • June 26 (Thursday) – A reception from the Canadian Labour of Congress (CLC) with further details to be determined; and
  • June 27-29 – As in previous years, the Alliance will also be involved in the official marches: Trans, Dyke and Pride Parades.
  • For a listing of all events, please select this link.
