It"s not often recognized, but music, dance, theatre, poetry, drumming, song – they"re all part of the response to the AIDS pandemic.

At the grassroots, in village after village where the virus haunts life, the use of the arts as a therapeutic tool is valued, cherished and employed. There"s nothing more moving than the way in which song, dance and play can lift an orphaned child out of silence and suffering.

On this World AIDS Day, it"s worth remembering that in Africa, all the elements of life and culture are mobilized to turn the tide of AIDS.
