UOIT Professional, Administrative and Technical Staff
Statement from PSAC on the UOIT Organizing Drive
The support staff at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) are currently without union representation. In 2016, we at the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) earnestly began a campaign to unionize the professional, administrative and technical staff in hopes of organizing one of the only non-unionized employee groups in the entire university sector in Ontario.
Working in conjunction to our already unionized PSAC Local 555 (which represents all Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, Sessional Faculty, and Post-Doctoral Fellows at UOIT), PSAC initiated an organizing drive to sign union cards intended to unionize the UOIT support staff. As a signatory of a union card with PSAC, we would like to thank you for your support of this campaign for unionization.
Currently, Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is conducting a similar campaign to unionize the support staff at UOIT. PSAC fully supports the UOIT staff’s efforts to unionize the workplace so the workers have the right to negotiate their work conditions with the employer. The most important priority for PSAC has always been to ensure that all professional, administrative and technical staff have union representation, so we encourage all UOIT support staff to contact OPSEU to join their organizing efforts to unionize the workers at UOIT. PSAC wishes the best of luck to OPSEU and the workers at UOIT and hopes the unionization drive will result in success in the immediate future.
