OWEN SOUND – Workers at the Seasons Retirement Communities centre in Owen Sound have voted overwhelmingly to ratify their first contract with the operator of the facility.

The three-year deal, which covers about 60 employees, will increase wages by two per cent annually retroactive to Feb. 1, 2014. The workers provide dining room, nursing care, housekeeping and other services to residents of Seasons. The retirement home is one of eight operated by the company.

"Our bargaining team worked hard to quickly achieve a first contract that would be a starting point for good labour relations," said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.

"Although they did not achieve everything on their wish list, our members realize there is a building process and know OPSEU is here to support them."
