OPSEU at LifeLabs: Why we can’t meet you at work

The OPSEU team would be thrilled to meet with you face-to-face in your workplace! Unfortunately, we do not have the legal right to enter LifeLabs unless directly invited by management, as it is private property.

In 2014, many of you took part in the Teamsters’ certification vote at LifeLabs after LifeLabs purchased CML HealthCare. This combined non-union and unionized staff, and as the existing union for the CML staff, Teamsters was permitted to hold info meetings in the LifeLabs building. LifeLabs was legally required to allow Teamsters to hold these meetings in your workplace.

While many people feel that OPSEU should be permitted to enter the workplace in a similar fashion this time around, the unfortunate reality is that LifeLabs is currently not unionized. As a result, we don’t have the rights and privileges to enter the workplace, even though many staff want us to.

This is why we must send all communications to your personal emails (or home addresses) and also why all of our meetings must take place off site. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause. We would be happy to hold any and all info meetings on site, should your employer extend the invitation.

We know how busy you are, and we’d be happy to meet you at whatever time/location is most convenient for you. Let us know – we look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
The OPSEU Team
