Clients, front-line workers, and allies of Addiction and Mental Health Services – Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (AMHS-KFLA) will be rallying and gathering signatures in front of Kingston City Hall against cuts and layoffs at the agency.
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas will be among the speakers.
The cuts and layoffs will hurt clients, their families, and everybody in the community:
- Eliminating a therapeutic program that helps people find work will increase unemployment
- Drastically cutting the residential program will increase homelessness
- Laying off nearly 60 workers who have hundreds of years of experience, and who have developed trusting relationships with the clients, will leave many without the addiction and mental health supports they need
