Mental Health – Challenging the Stigma in the Workplace

Course Description: As workers and labour activists, we are faced with economic, social, and political changes in our workplaces that impact our mental wellbeing on a daily basis. We all respond differently to situations that impact our lives and subsequently, our mental health. This introductory course explores mental health, mental health concerns, and stigma in the workplace. Some of the topics covered in this course include: demystifying mental health; individual, union, and employer responsibilities; member-to-member issues; and some strategies to challenge stigma and build inclusion.

Dealing with Workplace Conflict

Course Description: Every day in our lives, we have to deal with conflict. This course will help equip you with skills, knowledge and confidence to effectively deal with conflict situations in your workplace and union. Building on previous steward training that participants may have taken, this course will assist you in recognizing situations of conflict, grasping the impact of unaddressed workplace conflict and developing strategies to address workplace conflict.

Navigating Roberts Rules of Order (1 Evening ONLY)

Course Description: What is Roberts Rules of Order (RRO), how RRO is used at convention, and how is it used to conduct inclusive meetings? These are some of the questions that will be addressed in the online Roberts Rules of Order three hour course. Participants will be provided an introduction to the basic rules of Roberts Rules of Order and the modifications used by OPSEU/SEFPO. They will also be given an opportunity to use these guidelines in running a meeting of their own. Lastly participants will be exposed to how to use Roberts Rules of Order to promote diverse interactions in their locals. By the end of the course, participants will have a better understanding of the basics of Roberts Rules of Order, OPSEU/SEFPO’s modifications to the rules, recognize the difference between a motion and a resolution, and understand what a constitutional amendment is. This course includes a variety of resource materials.
