OPSEU/SEFPO and the Coalition of Racialized Workers (CoRW), would like to invite you to submit your application to participate in an upcoming Member Support Investigator & Advisor Training.

Peer support is a relationship between people who have identifiable and shared lived experiences in common. The Member Support Investigator/Advisor will provide emotional and social support and guidance on matters of discrimination and harassment. They will act as an additional resource to members, with the support of member services as the official bargaining agent of the member/s locals.

REACT consultants, have been secured to develop and facilitate this very important training, as it is understood that members who have experienced racism and discrimination in the workplace or the union, often require support from someone who understands and can relate to their issues and struggles as they navigate the journey towards resolution.

The need for MSIA training was identified within the CoRW’s strategic plan, as a way to support members dealing with ant Black racism in their workplaces. Members will gain a better understanding of race base discrimination and harassment, This training will also provide a framework to the member-centered approach to mediation and conflict resolution, with a focus on developing critical strategies to effectively support Black, Indigenous and racialized members during race based complaint process.

The Training will be held November 8-9 & 10, 2021, and is open to all OPSEU/SEFPO’s members who identify as racialized as defined in the Ontario Human Rights Commission Policy and Guidelines on Racism and Racial Discrimination. Participants must be available to attend in all three days to be considered.

If you would like to be considered for this training, please complete the attached application form and submit no later than September 15, 2021 to [email protected]
