Why are we doing this?
OPSEU Local 313 members work at the Ontario Tree Seed Plant. They extract, test and store billions of tree seeds every year and distribute them to nurseries, forestry companies and individuals across the province and around the world. It’s the only one in Ontario – our forests depend on the Ontario Tree Seed Plant!
But the plant is scheduled to close in September 2018 due to a reckless decision without consultation by the previous government. All four Simcoe-Grey candidates in the recent provincial election supported keeping the tree seed plant open, and MPP Jim Wilson spoke up for the plant in the Legislature.
In a promising turn of events, the new Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Hon. Jeff Yurek, has announced a review of the decision to close the plant.
So there is hope! Let’s encourage the new government to correct course right away and save the Ontario Tree Seed Plant!

See you on July 21!
