Workers at Surex Community Services have voted 98 per cent in favour of strike action if necessary. They are resolved to bargain a collective agreement that provides fair wages as well as benefits for all staff. Approximately 76 per cent of the workers are classified as part-time. The bargaining team is in conciliation on June 8.
Workers at Surex provide residential support to adults with developmental disabilities in 11 residential homes in Toronto that provide 24-hour care. Surex workers also run a community support program that involves training, recreation and community integration.
