Media blackout in contract talks

Message from the Chair

A media blackout is now in place between members of your bargaining team and representatives of the College Employer Council. The decision to impose a blackout on the talks was agreed to by both sides.

This sort of blackout is common when contract negotiations enter a critical period. A similar media blackout was in place in previous rounds of our bargaining with management.

A media blackout means that neither side can disclose details of what is taking place at the table. The rule applies to outside media, like newspapers and television, as well as to communications within our own membership.

That doesn’t mean we won’t be communicating with college support members around issues like mobilizing or solidarity-building as we have been since talks started in June. It just means, by mutual agreement, we can’t reveal what’s actually taking place at the bargaining table.

The media blackout will be lifted once the two sides are able to reach a tentative agreement.

I encourage everyone to keep visiting Facebook, Twitter and the OPSEU website to learn how you can maintain the great support you’ve been sharing with the bargaining team. We really appreciate your support and look forward to it!

If you have any questions or comments please send them along to our email address: caatsbargainingteam2014@opseu.org

Bring it on home on Aug. 12!

Just because a media blackout is now in effect it doesn’t mean we can’t continue our strong support of the bargaining team.

On Aug. 12, your CAAT Support bargaining team will meet with the employer in attempt to bring home a decent contract.

Let’s show the team we’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them.

  • On Aug. 12, show your support for the bargaining team:
  • Post a message of support in the comment section on Facebook;
  • Invite 12 of your friends to join the Facebook page;
  • Tweet messages of support using the hashtag #coolcaats;
  • Proudly wear your CAAT Support sticker.

For those who are not on Facebook please email your message of support to CAATSbargainingteam2014@opseu.org

Go Team Go!

Don’t forget to enter the CAAT-S photo contest today!

The deadline is quickly approaching for members to enter the Great College Support Photo Contest and a chance to win one of three fantastic prizes.

We’re looking for imaginative photographs, funny photographs and informative pictures – or a combination of all three! The idea is to capture who you are, what you do either at work or away from the workplace and where you do it. In fact, whatever photo image might capture your fancy is eligible to enter.

We’re offering some great prizes for the top three photos as judged by a special CAAT Support panel.

  • First prize:          Go Pro Camera
  • Second prize:     iPad Mini
  • Third prize:         Smartwatch

Submissions should be uploaded to the Facebook page: facebook.com/CAATsupportstaff

Deadeline for submissions: 12 noon Tuesday Aug. 26.
