Re:
CBS Defined Benefit Pension Plan Union Trustee
The Pension Liaison Committee invites you or someone you
know to get involved with the Canadian Blood Services Defined Benefit
Pension Plan, by applying to be a Trustee.
We require your assistance in helping us to find suitable
candidates for the position of Union Trustee.
With the challenges currently facing pension plans we need
people who have a firm and deep commitment to the labour movement and Union
principles as well as an understanding of pension plans, trustee
responsibilities and the legal framework surrounding pensions.
The DB plan is jointly sponsored by Canadian Blood Services
and a list of participating unions, and administered by a Board of Trustees
representing the sponsors. Under the terms of Trust Agreement, the Union
trustees are composed of one appointed by OPSEU, one appointed by CUPE and
one who is appointed in rotation from the list of participating unions. In
addition, there is an alternate trustee appointed by CBS and a union
alternate trustee appointed from the participating union list.
Who should apply?
*individuals with an understanding of OPSEU’s beliefs and
Policies
*a well-articulated view of where workers sit in relation to
the management and investment of capital
*a demonstrated ability to read, research and formulate
positions clearly
*ability to articulate positions at caucus and at Board of
Trustee meetings
*prepare written position papers based on Union
foundations/positions
*ability to defend positions against management opposition
*a commitment of ‘time’ to your Union
If you or someone you know would be interested in applying
for this exciting position as a Union Trustee, please forward your name,
contact information and local no later than February 12, 2010 to:
